Graebern Lodge

Graebern Lodge is one of Ballarat’s finest Bed and Breakfast’s situated on half an acre of tranquil bushland in the township of Buninyong offering stylish, luxury, boutique, self contained, 4.5 star Bed and Breakfast accommodation.

During my stay at the lodge the number one highlight was being central to many freshwater fishing locations around Ballarat and of the peace and quiet, comfort and modern facilities available. It was great to be able to set up my lap top and be connected to broadband internet to do some business. Then during a break make a cup of tea and view through every window magnificent views of the bushland, golf course and valleys extending towards Ballarat, Mount Buninyong and the distant Grampians.

Their central geographic location also means that Graebern Lodge is an ideal base from which to conduct day trips to explore the many areas of interest in the Western District of Victoria, from the Great Ocean Road to the Pyrenees Wine Area, the Grampians National Park to Melbourne or Geelong and the Bellarine Peninsula.

Accommodation Suites
Patrons of Graebern Lodge can Choose from either the 3 bedroom Penthouse Suite, the 2 bedroom Garden Spa Suite, or the 1 bedroom Villa Spa Suite. The Penthouse and Garden Spa suites are connecting and can be combined to cater for groups wanting to use the 5 bedrooms and the extra space. The Villa Spa Suite is located away from the other suites offering complete privacy.

This is the downstairs unit of the lodge with 2 bedrooms, 1 king bed or 2 king singles, 1 queen plus a double sofa bed, gourmet kitchen, spacious lounge and dining area, bathroom with double spa bath, quality beds, furniture and appointments. This suite offers grand style with beautiful polished floors, plush Persian rugs, high ceilings with ornate cornices and direct access to the veranda via two sets of French doors.

The Villa Spa Suite
This is a spacious 1 bedroom unit located away from the main house, ensuring absolute privacy. Ideal for those with relaxation and romance in mind, this is a town house style unit which has a spacious upstairs area with a luxurious queen size bed, lounge area and a business centre with high speed broadband internet access and multi function printer.
Downstairs there is a fully equipped kitchen with European appliances (including dishwasher) and a dining area. There is also a beautiful bathroom with double spa bath and separate laundry facilities.

Freshwater Fishing
Graebern Lodge is central to not only some of the best freshwater fishing destinations in Victoria, but also too many saltwater fishing locations along the Bellarine Peninsula and Great Ocean Road.
Angling clubs are well and truly catered for at Graebern Lodge with groups of up to 14 members available. There are freezer facilities to keep the fish nice and fresh for your return trip home with fishing licenses, tackle and equipment available at Scott’s Tackle shop in the city of Ballarat.

For the freshwater fisherman there is the Central Highland lakes that provide wild Brown trout, Rainbow trout, and redfin in ideal scenic setting providing great sport to all methods of fishing.
Some of the choice locations are-

Newlyn’s Reservoir, Deans Reservoir, Hepburn Lagoon, Cosgrove Reservoir, Gong Gong reservoir, Lake Wendouree, Wombat Reservoir and St George reservoir.

Saltwater Fishing
Only an hours drive from the lodge there are many saltwater locations like Bellarine Peninsula which offers some excellent fishing in and around Portarlington, Steele’s Rocks, Grassy Point, Indented Heads and St Leonard’s Pier.

Queenscliff has exceptional fishing at the Queenscliff Boat Harbour, Queenscliff Pier, Bells Reef, Queenscliff boat ramp, Golightly Beach, Swan bay boat ramp, Point Lonsdale Pier, Lakers Cutting.

Great Ocean Road also offers the angler great and diverse fishing at places like Lorne and Apollo Bay. At the Lorne pier, mullet, garfish and Trevally are targeted along with Australian salmon and barracuda. At Apollo Bay, the inshore fishing can be fantastic and the safe Harbour and launching ramp make fishing very accessible. Good-sized catches of silver Trevally, snapper, shark, King George whiting, Australian salmon and flathead are common. For offshore fishing, try Ingoldsby Reef out from Anglesea, with whiting and snapper on the inshore side and Australian salmon, kingfish and pike outside. Great river fishing is also on offer with popular spots including the Aire River near Glenaire and the Gellibrand River near Colac.
