Fishing the Sorrento and Mornington Peninsula Area

Fish bait, cast a lure, or flick a fly into some of Victoria's most productive fishing grounds around the Mornington Peninsula. Anglers have the opportunities to fish dozens of piers from the shores of Port Phillip, Hobsons and Westernport bays.

Port Phillip and Westernport bays constantly provide an excellent supply of whiting, gummy and school shark, squid, salmon, flathead and elephant fish. Snapper are fished for year-round, but the fishing really comes alive during the season of spring and summer when the snapper start to run in October or November and continue through until February or March. Snapper weighing up to 10 kilograms are occasionally caught from boats, and occasionally from piers and jetties.

Fishing can be enjoyed in many places

Many surf beaches between Port Phillip Bay and Western Port are worthwhile spots for surf anglers. Some of the more popular beaches include Rye Back Beach, Gunnamatta and Point Leo.

Throughout winter large schools of salmon and tailor provide amazing lure and fly fishing action with resurgence in yellowtail kingfish. Another avenue for fishermen who haven’t the time, and need instant success is to book a days fishing with many charter boat business that operate in the area.

Anglers with a more adventurous streak can fish further offshore again hiring charter boats that will take them into the ocean waters of Bass Strait where the fishing extends to larger sharks, southern bluefin tuna and smaller mackerel tuna.

There can be nothing better then being welcomed personally by operators who are delighted to have you stay and proud of what they present. Naomi and Peter Nicholson of Tamasha House put their heart and soul into creating a really extraordinary place for everyone to enjoy.
